The next stage of classical ballet training
Pointe classes are intended for students with an established classical ballet foundation. They develop specific technical skills and require strength, stability and good body control.
Participation follows an individual teacher assessment. Technical and physical readiness, experience and regular attendance at classical ballet classes are the deciding factors.
Readiness for pointe work
Before a student begins, we assess placement, strength and control of the feet and ankles, stability and the ability to maintain technique. Age alone is not sufficient.
What classes are like
We begin with preparatory exercises and basic movements at the barre. Students learn correct rises and descents, weight placement and control of the feet, knees and body. Once the foundations are secure, they progress to centre exercises, balances and more complex combinations.
What we develop
- Strength and control of the feet and ankles.
- Stability, balance and correct weight placement.
- Precision and musicality.
- Confidence and ease of movement.
